Christmas Day. Or as I like to call it: December 25th
The food yesterday was pretty good. Fond memories.
08:00: watching a TV broadcast from the Apollo 8, who was circling around the moon 45 years ago. The connection is about as stable as the average Skype call.
10:30: preparing for the train trip to my dad.
11:56: leaving on time from Leiden. I only have 4 minutes to change trains in Utrecht – I shouldn’t have a delay.
12:15: uh-oh
12:38: definitely missed it, damn. I think in the last three years I always had a train delay on Christmas Day.
13:17: arrived in Ede-Wageningen
13:35: arrived in my dad’s new house
13:50: a tour of the house. The toilet on the second floor is a bit public (i.e. in front of the window, without curtain.
14:05: they fixed the beam on the third floor from some Second World War shrapnel
14:30: time for wine!?
15:30: the beer is in the cellar… If I’m not back n 30 minutes, call for help!
15:35: back safely
16:00: why is my dad lighting a fire in the back yard?
18:30: a gin tonic wodka is an indication of what? . . .
19:15: first course, I’m not going to translate this to English
08:15: checking out the dishes for the rest of the Christmas dinner. An Indonesian rijsttafel consists of many (11) small dishes. They all take 30-45 minutes to make, so we will spend the day cooking. Luckily, we can make the dishes a day in advance – so we are cooking today.
09:00: still a bit afraid the shower will be cold again
09:05: nope, it is nice and warm
11:00: early lunch/breakfast
11:30: fire up the stove, we start cooking!
11:45: blast, I first have to cut the onions
13:00: Perkedel Atjeh: done (meatballs wit cocos)
15:00: oops, the Sambal trassi has mold. Sending someone out on a mission to get more.
15:15: we continue with the next dish
15:20: damn, more Sambal trassi is needed
15:30: and for yet another dish it is also needed
15:45: oh well, doing some preparations for the dishes
16:15: Sambal trassi is in the house: let’s get cooking!
